This program is for physicians and other healthcare professionals who are licensed to prescribe medication for pain. This course has been updated to include changes to the statute beginning July of 2019. Completing this course will satisfy the Tennessee Board of Medical Examiner’s requirement of 2 CME hours in prescribing. For all MD/DO participants who successfully complete the program, and who are licensed in the state of Tennessee, your participation will be reported to the TN Medical Licensing Board. We will cover the contributing factors of the current opioid epidemic and the rising overdose rates. Overview of the CSMD and requirements, the TN Chronic Pain Guidelines and recent regulatory updates, NAS and women’s health, and case vignettes throughout the lecture.Speaker: Michael Baron MD In this program, physicians and other health care professionals will engage in a comprehensive review of new definitions, laws and other regulatory changes affecting pain management. This program will help health care clinicians understand and adhere to prescribing guidelines to keep patients safe, and protect themselves from inadvertently contributing to the exploding prescription drug abuse epidemic. Physicians will learn about the proper use and responsible management of pain clinics and the importance of educating patients on the pain medication prescribed. NOTE: While approximately 25% of this program is Tennessee-specific, physicians from other states will also benefit from this program. ** This course satisfies the BME requirement of 2 CME hours in prescribing.
